The SADC-COUNCIL OF NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANISATIONS (SADC-CNGO) is an independent organisation of the umbrella NGO coalitions in all 15 member states of the Southern African Development Community (SADC). Its secretariat is based in Gaborone, Botswana.

SADC-CNGO advertises for three positions.

1. DIRECTOR OF PROGRAMMES

Job purpose

To ensure that SADC-CNGO meets defined operational deliverables and obligations in implementing its mandate with respect to different programmes being rolled out to member countries.

The Job

The incumbent is expected to deliver on:

  • Operational leadership of SADC-CNGO
  • Fund raising for programmes,
  • Donor management
  • Organisational effectiveness

The ideal person

  • Master’s Degree in Social Sciences or equivalent
  • At least eight years’ experience at management level three of which should be in an NGO
  • Experience in and/or exposure to the development sectors in Southern Africa,
  • Citizen of the SADC region
  • Working knowledge of either Portuguese and/or French would be an advantage, in addition to English.

2. MANAGER: REGIONAL ECONOMIC INTEGRATION

Job purpose:

Promoting people-centered, equitable and sustainable economic integration that benefits all people in member countries of SADC, particularly the poor majority.

The job:

The incumbent is supposed to deliver mainly on:

  • Research, Policy Development and Support.
  • Economic Integration programs in SADC region.
  • Fundraising and mobilisation for the programme, and
  • Monitoring and evaluation of the programmes’ activities.

The ideal person:

  • Masters degree in Economic related field (Economic Studies, Social Sciences etc)
  • At least five years appropriate experience in regional or international organisations that focus on economic related matters.
  • At least three years’ experience at Senior Management Level in an NGO
  • Exposure to national or broader policy development
  • Experience and knowledge of the regional economic integration development challenges in Southern Africa
  • Additional language of Portuguese or French would be an advantage.
  • Citizen of the SADC region.

3. MANAGER: GOVERNANCE, PEACE AND SECURITY

Job purpose:

Reporting to the Programmes Director, the incumbent ensures an effective contribution towards the promotion of democracy, peace and good governance in SADC member countries to enable people to live peaceful, dignified and secure lives.

The job:

The incumbent is supposed to deliver on:

  • Research, Policy Development and Support
  • Developing and enabling Governance, Peace and Security programme
  • Fundraising and mobilisation of resources for the programme
  • Monitoring and Evaluation of the programme’s activities

The ideal person:

  • Master’s Degree in Social Sciences or related field
  • At least six years appropriate experience at local, national or regional level on Governance, Peace and Security.
  • At least three years at Senior Management level in an NGO.
  • Exposure to national or broader policy development
  • Experience in the development sectors in Southern Africa
  • Additional language of Portuguese or French would be an advantage
  • Citizen of SADC region.
